Here's one you don't see very often. This is a WADE & BUTCHER large hunter switchblade made in the 1910s & 20s under contract by Schrade Cut Co of Walden, NY for the English Cutlery Company. This knife is the same as the Schrade Cut Co 1543 3/4 model large hunter with different markings on the blade. The knife measures 4 7/8" closed and 8 5/8 inches open with steel liners and bolsters. The blade is mostly full at around 96% and a little short. The front tang is marked WADE & BUTCHER over an Arrow and the rear is marked FORGED IN SHEFFIELD ENGLAND US PATS FEB 13, 06 FEB 26, 07 SEPT 13, 10. I don't see any reason to believe that any part of this knife was made anywhere outside of Walden, NY so they likely put false information on the tang. The blade is nearly full with heavy patina and spotting, just as it would look after over 100 years of light use. Early jig pattern bone scales in excellent condition with one small crack through a pin near the back bolster. The knife works great with blade tip seating deep, good snap and good lockup with approx 3/16" up and down at the tip. Safety works. Nice honest example of a 100+ year old American made switchblade for the English market.
