Vintage PRESTO BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA automatic knife made for scouts with disabilities in the 1940s by the George Schrade Knife Co of Bridgeport, CT. The really COOL thing about this knife is you can clearly see the word "AMERICA" etched on the blade as well as "OF" and part of "BOY" if you look very closely, though the rest of the original etch was lost to poor sharpening over the years and possibly removed intentionally. The original etch read: BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA with the scout symbol in the middle as you can see in the last picture which is of another knife to show what the etch looked like originally. This is a REAL DEAL Boy Scout switchblade knife from the 1940s!
The knife measures 4 1/8 inches closed and 7 inches open with steel liners, bolsters, button & safety. The clip blade is mostly full at about 96% with a lot of scratches, spotting and a tiny bit of the tip was broken off a long time ago. The tang is stamped PRESTO MADE IN USA and the reverse is stamped GEO SCHRADE BRIDGEPORT, CONN. The jigged bone scales are in excellent condition. The knife works well with the blade tip deep and centered in the well, opens fully and good lockup with about 1/16" up and down at the tip. This is basically the same knife as the M2 Paratrooper made by Presto for the US military during WWII, but those did not have any etches on the blades. Safety works. VG+ condition.
