Vintage SHAPLEIGH HDW CO DE pattern #S2P Medium double MOP tip bolster switchblade made by Schrade Cutlery Co of Walden, NY sometime between 1907 and 1916. The Shapleigh catalog number for this knife was S2P and it measures 3 3/8" closed and 6 7/8 inches open with brass liners and nickel silver tip bolsters, buttons and safeties. It is a Spear/pen blade combo and the blades are both 90% full or better with lots of scratches, spotting and patina. Large blade is stamped SHAPLEIGH HDW CO around a diamond with letters D-E inside. Small blade is stamped US PATS FEB 13, 06 & FEB 26, 07. The Mother of Pearl scales are original and each side has a hairline crack across the scale with beautiful luster! The front button sits low, but works okay. The knife works well with both blade tips even with, or below liners closed, both open fully with kickback and very good lockup open with less than 1/16" movement at the tips. Both safeties work. VG- condition.
