SHAPLEIGH HDW CO DE Medium double Cocobolo Tip bolster switchblade knife
Vintage SHAPLEIGH HDW DE Medium double Cocobolo Tip bolster switchblade knife made for the hardware giant by Schrade Cutlery Co of Walden, NY sometime between 1910 and 1916 most likely. Measures 3 3/8" closed and just over 7 inches open with brass liners and nickel silver bolsters, buttons and safeties. Both blades are nearly full with some light scratches and light peppering. Main spear blade marked SHAPLEIGH HDW CO around a diamond shape with DE inside (Diamond Edge trademark) and pen blade is stamped US PATS FEB 13, 06, FEB 26, 07 & SEPT 13, 10. Cocobolo celluloid scales (handles) are in good condition with a crack through the button on the front and a little cracking by one pin on the back scale. Knife works well with blade tips below, or even with liners closed, open fully and average lockup with a little movement, but barely rattles if shaken with blades open. Opens best using your thumbnail to push the buttons as many of the old doubles do. Both safeties work. VG+ condition.
