Schrade Walden vintage MC1 Orange military paratrooper switchblade knife. This knife was made for the US government under contract by Schrade Walden into the 1960s. These knives also saw use by NASA and carried into space with astronauts as well as being used by other government agencies. The clip blade is opened automatically by pressing the button and the hook blade opens manually. Typically paratroopers deployed with the hook blade in the open position for quick emergency use.
The knife measures 4.25 inches closed and 7 3/8 inches with clip blade open and it has steel liners & nickel silver lanyard ring, button and safety. The clip blade is 99% full or better with most of the original finish intact with a few light scratches and is marked on the tang Schrade Walden NY USA and reverse is stamped STAINLESS. The hook blade is like new and works well. The orange jigged scales are in good condition with just a little shrinkage and a couple of hairline cracks around the safety slot on this is a later 4 pin knife. The knife works great with the clip blade tip seating deep & centered closed, good snap and good lockup when open with about 1/16" movement at the tip and slight side to side. Barely rattles if shaken with the blade open. Safety works. VG+ condition.
