Schrade Cut Co large Hunter switchblade with black jigged (stagged) celluloid scales (handles). This is the largest switchblade knife made by Schrade measuring 4 7/8" closed and 8 3/4" open with steel liners. It was designated the model 1544 3/4 STG and was made in Walden, NY sometime between 1916 and 1946. The blade is stamped SCHRADE CUT CO WALDEN, NY on the front and three patents on the rear of 09, 10, 16. The blade is 96% full with patina and some light pits and spots, but overall very nice blade. The jigged black scales are in excellent condition with no cracks and minimal shrinkage. The knife works well with the blade tip seating deep, strong snap and very good lockup when open with approx 3/16" up and down at the tip. Safety works. The knife is in VG+ condition and would make a great addition to any knife collection.
