Vintage Schrade Cut Co 1554 3/4 Scout with Imitation Stag handles switchblade knife made in Walden, NY most likely 1942 or later. Schrade switched over from jigged bone to black jigged celluloid and plastic scales around 1942 so there are not many of these compared to the bone. It measures 4 1/4" closed and 7 3/16 inches open with steel liners, bolsters and button with nickel silver safety. The blade is mostly full (about 94%) and shiny with light scratches and pitting on both sides of the tang (which means the blade was cleaned at some point). The tang is stamped SCHRADE CUT CO WALDEN NY on the front and US PATS DEC 21, 09, SEPT 13, 10 and JUNE 6, 16 on the rear tang though hard to make it all out with the pitting. The black jigged synthetic scales (Stagged was term used by Schrade) are in very good condition and are held on by steel pins. The knife works great with blade tip seating deep in the well closed, strong snap and very good lockup open with less than 1/16" movement both ways. Barely rattles if shaken. Safety works. EX+ condition.
