Schrade Cut Co Medium double Butter & Molasses celluloid automatic knife
Schrade Cut Co Medium double Butter & Molasses celluloid automatic knife
This is an early Schrade Cut Co medium double, pattern number 7404K that measures 3 3/8" closed and 6 7/8 inches open with brass liners. It was made by the Schrade Cutlery Co of Walden, NY somewhere around 1910-1916 so it's a 100+ year old American made switchblade. Main blade stamped Schrade Cut Co Walden, NY and the small pen blade is marked with three early patent dates, 1906, 07 & 10. Blades are mostly full and main blade slightly reshaped at the tip and appear to have been nicely cleaned at some point. The beautiful Butter & Molasses (brown lined cream) celluloid scales are in fair condition with a crack through the button on the rear scale and some tiny hairline cracks as you can see in the pics. The knife works well with both blade tips seating even with the liners or below, open fully and good lockup with kickback on small blade. A little movement at the tips, but doesn't rattle if shaken when open. Both safeties work. VG- condition.
