Schrade Cut Co 1614 3/4 Hunter Saber grind Black stagged automatic knife made in Walden, NY sometime between 1930 and 1946. This is the largest switchblade knife made by Schrade measuring 4 7/8" closed and 8 5/8 inches open with steel liners & bolsters and nickel silver button, safety cap and spun pins. The blade is 98% full or better with patina, light scratches from sharpening/use and scattered pitting and the tang is stamped Schrade Cut Co Walden, NY. The backside is stamped US PATS DEC 21, 09, SEPT 13, 10 and JUNE 6, 16. The blade was likely originally etched "SCHRADE HUNTING KNIFE", but the etches were fragile and easily rubbed off. The scales (handles) are black jigged synthetic, marketed by Schrade as "Stagged" covers and are in very good condition with slight shrinkage by the bolsters. The knife works well with blade tip even with the liners closed, good snap and average lockup with about 1/16" movement each way at the tip. Does rattle slightly if shaken with blade open as most do. Safety works. EX- condition.
