SCHRADE CUT CO 1553 3/4 Scout Jigged bone automatic knife

Vintage Schrade Cut Co Walden, NY single blade bone handled switchblade knife. This knife was designated the pattern #1553 3/4 and is the smaller of the 2 large frame single blade switchblades made by Schrade. This model is sometimes referred to as "the Scout" and the larger one is called the Hunter. The knife measures 4.25 inches closed and 7 1/4 inches open and it has steel liners and bolsters & nickel silver button and safety with spun brass pins. The blade is stamped SCHRADE CUT CO WALDEN NY on the front tang and backside stamped US PATS DEC 21 09, SEPT 13 10, JUNE 6, 1916. The blade is 96% full or better with a little loss from sharpening, patina and a little peppering. The jigged bone scales (handles) are in excellent condition with no cracks, but one tiny chip near the bolster on the front scale. The knife works great with the blade tip a hair above the liners closed, good snap and average lockup with about 3/16" up and down at the tip. Safety does not work properly. VG condition.
