Schrade Cut Co 1404W Single Jack Ivory Celluloid switchblade knife
Schrade Cut Co 1404W Single Jack Ivory Celluloid switchblade knife
This knife was made by the Schrade Cutlery Co of Walden, NY sometime between 1916 and 1946. This knife was designated the 1404W with Ivory celluloid scales. It has one blade that is activated by pressing the button. The knife measures 3 3/8" closed and 5 7/8" open with brass liners. The knife has seen light use over the years and the blade is about 96% full and shiny with some scratches and is stamped SCHRADE CUT CO WALDEN NY and three patent dates, 09,10 & 16 on the back of the tang. The scales are in very good condition with no cracks, just a few handling marks. The knife works well with tip a hair above the liners closed, opens fully when button is pressed and locks open well with just a little movement each way. Does not rattle if shaken when open. These single blade Schrades are much less common than the doubles so a little more valuable. Safety works. EX condition.
