Vintage Schrade Cut Co #1404H Single Jack Black & White Celluloid switchblade knife made by the Schrade Cutlery Co of Walden, NY sometime between 1916 and 1946. The knife measures 3 3/8" closed and 5 3/4" open with brass liners and nickel silver button & safety. The clip blade is about 95% full and shiny with some scratches and light spotting and is stamped SCHRADE CUT CO WALDEN NY and three patent dates, DEC 21, 09, SEPT 13, 10 & JUNE 6, 16 on the back of the tang. The scales are in very good condition with no cracks, just a few handling marks. The knife works well with tip a hair above the liners closed, opens fully when button is pressed and locks open with about 1/8" movement at the tip. Does rattle if shaken when open. These single blade Schrades are much less common than the doubles so a little more valuable. Safety works. VG+ condition.
