RPK 24cm Russian Prison Knife Aluminum bolster vintage picklock automatic knife measures 24cm (9.5 inches) open and 5 3/8 inches closed. It is believed that these knives were made by inmates of Russian prisons back in the 1950s through the 1970s to be sold to raise capital for the prisons and given by prison personnel as bribes and gifts. They are all hand made and very unique and beautiful pieces of Russian cutlery Folk Art. The Saber ground Drop point swedge blade appears to be 100% full with all of the original finish and has no markings. The smooth black scales appear to be plastic, or some synthetic material and are in great condition. This has a sliding button that you pull down to release the blade and then you have to "pick" the locking tab up with your thumbnail to release the blade to be closed. The knife works well with blade tip deep and centered in the well closed, strong smooth snap and Tight lockup open. This is a Very nice smooth knife with a great feel. EX+ condition.
