RPK Russian Prison Knife Vintage Red Sparkle switchblade knife. These knives were made by inmates of Russian prisons back in the 1960s and 70s to be sold to raise capital for the prisons. They are all hand made and very unique and beautiful pieces of Russian cutlery Folk Art. This knife measures 22.5cm (9 inches) open with a steel frame and bolster plates. The unusually shaped carbon steel blade appears to be full and has heavy patina and some peppering as do the bolsters. The sparkly Red scales are actually clear acrylic over some sort of red foil, I believe and are in nice condition. The knife works well with the blade tip seating deep in the well when closed, smooth strong snap and good lockup when open with some movement, but springs right back. It is button open, button close. Very cool vintage Russian RPK switchblade.
