PRESTO Scout Jigged Bone Vintage automatic Long Clip swedge Book Knife made by the George Schrade Knife Co of Bridgeport, CT sometime between 1930 and 1941. It measures 4 1/8" closed and 6 15/16" open with steel liners, bolsters, bail & button & nickel silver safety. The blade is marked PRESTO over PAT PEND-G on the front and G. SCHRADE over B'PORT, CT on the rear. The Long clip swedge blade is not likely the original shape, it was likely re-shaped by a previous owner, but looks very good. The blade has heavy patina, light pitting and spotting. The jigged bone scales are very nice with tiny cracks at the bottom (back). The knife works well with blade tip even with the liners closed, strong snap and fair lockup with about 1/8" up and down at the tip. Rattles if shaken with blade open. Safety works. VG+ condition.
This knife will be pictured in the book Antique American Switchblades 2 and comes with a laminated Certificate of Authenticity to prove it. I had originally thought this might be a prototype knife since it has an early stamp and odd blade shape, but can't verify it so selling it as "altered".
