PRESTO PAT JAN 30, 40 Bowtie #5500 Blue & white Swirl vintage automatic knife

Vintage Presto fishtail bowtie switchblade knife made by the Geo Schrade Knife Co of Bridgeport, CT sometime between 1940 and 1956. This knife was designated the model #5500 with guarded top bolsters and no bottom bolsters. It measures 4 inches closed and 7 3/16 inches open and 4 inches closed with brass liners and nickel silver bolsters, button, safeties & pins. The blade is marked PRESTO PAT JAN 30-40 MADE IN USA on the front and GEO SCHRADE KNIFE CO INC B'P'T, CONN on the rear tang so it was made after 1940. The carbon steel clip blade is 97% full or better with heavy patina, spotting and light scratches. The blue & white swirl celluloid scales (handles) are in nice condition with no cracks, but it does have handling marks and scuffs from the past 80 years. Both bolsters are a little loose and move due to slight shrinkage of the handles. The knife works well with the blade tip even with the liners when closed, good snap and fair lockup open with about 1/4" up and down at the tip. Barely rattles if shaken with blade open. Needs firm push closed. Safety works. VG+ condition.
