PRESTO M2 Black Wormgroove handles vintage switchblade knife. This knife was made by the George Schrade Knife Co of Bridgeport, CT sometime between 1940 and 1956. It measures 4 1/8" closed and 6 3/4" open with steel liners, bolsters and lanyard ring, but nickel silver button and safety. The hawk bill blade is about 92% full with light scratches and missing a bit from sharpening and is stamped PRESTO PAT JAN 30-40 MADE IN USA front and GEO SCHRADE KNIFE CO INC BPT CONN rear. The scales are in nice condition with no cracks or shrinkage and has bail (staple) to attach a cord. The knife works well with blade tip deep and centered, strong snap and good lockup with about 1/8" up and down at the tip. Very likely military issue, probably post WWII, though some believe that these were issued near the end of the war. Also sold after the war and sometimes advertised as a flooring/carpet knife. Safety works well. VG+ condition.
