Antique Press Button Knife Co model #102 medium double switchblade knife with tortoise celluloid handles made in Walden, NY sometime between 1892 and 1923. It is the middle one of three sizes of switchblade doubles made by the company. It measures 3 3/8" closed and 6.75 inches with both blades open and has brass liners and nickel silver buttons. Spear/pen blade combo with spear blade around 90% and the pen blade 95% full with light scratches, patina and some light spotting. Both blades are marked PRESS BUTTON KNIFE CO WALDEN NY on the front and the small blade has US PAT 470605 on the back, but the large blade has PATENT APPLIED FOR on the back. I believe the patent this is referring to is for a safety that PBKC experimented with briefly around 1906 that was not successful so they used up the leftover blades on other knives. The tortoise celluloid scales are in very good condition with minor scuffs from handling. The knife works well with both blade tips below the liners closed, good snap and tight lockup on the small blade and with less than 1/8" at the tip of he large blade. Very little kickback. Rattles if shaken with blades open as most of these do. VG+ condition.
