NORVELL SHAPLEIGH Medium Double Ivory cell tip bolsters switchblade knife

Early NORVELL SHAPLEIGH Medium Double Ivory cell tip bolsters switchblade knife. Made under contract by the Schrade Cutlery Co of Walden, NY between 1906 and 1916 for the hardware giant. Measures 3 3/8" closed and 7 inches open with brass liners and nickel silver bolsters, button and safety. Spear/pen blade combination with both blades stamped NORVELL SHAPLEIGH ST LOUIS on the front and SCHRADE CUT CO WALDEN, NY on the rear of the tang on the spear blade. Pen blade stamped US PATS FEB 13, 06 and FEB 26, 07 on the rear tang. Blades are nearly full with heavy patina, scratches and spotting. The Ivory celluloid scales are in good condition with some tiny hairline cracks that you can see in the pics. Knife works well with both blade tips even with, or below liners, open strong and average lockup open with some kickback on both blades. This knife will be featured in the book Antique American Switchblades 2 when it comes out and comes with a laminated COA (certificate of authenticity) to prove it's the actual knife from the book.
