Vintage Flylock double Black jigged scales tip bolsters
This is a Flylock double made by the Flylock Knife Co, a division of Challenge Cutlery Corp of Bridgeport, CT sometime between 1920 and 1929. The knife is a model #1206 with rough black synthetic scales and German silver tip bolsters. It measures 3 3/8" closed and 6 7/8 inches open and has brass liners. The larger blade is marked Flylock over REG US PAT OFF on the front and FLYLOCK KNIFE CO over B'Port Conn on the back of the tang. Small blade marked Flylock over REG US PAT OFF on the front and U.S.PAT over 3-5-18 on the rear.
The blades have seen some use and sharpening as well as light cleaning, but are mostly full at 95%, or better. There is some patina and light scratches on the blades. The knife functions well with both blade tips even with the liners, both open fully and have good lockup with a little "up and down" movement as most of these do when used over time. The scales (handles) have slight shrinkage and there's a crack by the button on the backside that you can see in the pics. Overall a nice working example of a 100 year old American double bladed switchblade.
