Vintage Hammer Brand Serpentine Utility Jack switchblade from the 1950s was made by the Imperial Knife Co of Providence, RI and was designated the model JM98PB. The knife measures 3.5 inches closed and 6.25 inches open with steel liners, button and safety. The blade is marked HAMMER BRAND USA with a picture of an arm holding a hammer and the back is marked with two patent numbers, 2170537 & 2281782, but can't read very well. The blade is 98% full with light scratches and scattered peppering. The handles (scales) are hollow steel with celluloid wrap in Gray Pearl Streak celluloid and are in excellent condition. These more interesting colors were used in the late 1940s to mid 50s and are fun to collect. The wraps are in good condition with minimal shrinkage. The knife works well with the blade deep and centered closed, good snap and Tight lockup open. Does not rattle if shaken with blade open as most of these do. Safety does work. EX- condition.
