Vintage Hammer Brand Serpentine Utility Jack switchblade from the 1950s was made by the Imperial Knife Co of Providence, RI and was designated the model JM98PB. The knife measures 3.5 inches closed and 6.25 inches open with steel liners, button and safety. The blade is marked HAMMER BRAND USA with a picture of an arm holding a hammer and the back is marked with two patent numbers, 2170537 & 2281782. The blade is 98% full and shiny with some light scratches. The handles (scales) are hollow steel with celluloid wrap in Blue Pearl Red Streak celluloid and are in excellent condition. These more interesting colors were used in the late 1940s to mid 50s and are fun to collect. The wraps are in good condition with minimal shrinkage. The knife works well with the blade tip a hair above the liners closed, good snap and good lockup open with less than 1/8" up and down at the tip. Does rattle if shaken with blade open as most of these do. Safety does work. VG+ condition.
