Vintage Hammer Brand Serpentine Utility Jack switchblade knife from the 1950s made by the Imperial Knife Co of Providence, RI and was designated the model JM98PB. The knife measures 3.5 inches closed and 6 1/8 inches open with brass liners and nickel silver plated button and steel safety. The clip blade is 94% full, or better with a lot of scratches and scattered pitting and the tang is marked HAMMER BRAND USA with a picture of an arm holding a hammer and the back is marked P 2170537 over 2281782. The handles (scales) are hollow steel with celluloid wrap in Silver Pearl with blue streaks and in good condition with some shrinkage. The knife works well with the blade tip seating deep when closed, strong snap and good lockup open with a little movement each way. Does rattle if shaken with the blade open. Safety works. VG- condition.
