Hammer Brand Serpentine Utility Jack switchblade knife from the 1950s made by the Imperial Knife Co of Providence, RI and was designated the model JM98PB. The knife measures 3.5 inches closed and 6.25 inches open with steel liners and nickel silver button and safety. The clip blade is marked HAMMER BRAND USA with a picture of an arm holding a hammer and the back is marked P 2170537 2281782. The blade is 98% full with heavy pitting in a couple of places with some light scratches. The handles (scales) are hollow steel with celluloid wrap in Candystripe color have some staining under the celluloid on the backside making it look darker. These more interesting colors were used in the early 50s and are fun to collect. The knife works good with the blade tip seating deep in the well when closed, good snap and average lockup open with 1/8" up and down at the tip. Does not rattle if shaken when open as many of these do. Safety works. VG condition.
