Antique CHALLENGE CUT CO FLYLOCK Hunter Black Switchblade knife made in Bridgeport, CT between 1917 and 1924. The knife measures 5 inches closed and 8 5/8 inches open and has steel (iron) liners and nickel silver bolsters and button. The clip blade is mostly full at about 98% and mostly shiny with light scratches and a little light peppering, overall a very nice blade. The tang is stamped CHALLENGE CUT CO B'PORT CONN and the reverse is stamped FLY-LOCK in an arch over US PAT MAR 5, 1918. The black wormgroove scales are most likely bakelite and in excellent condition. Knife works well with blade tip Deep and centered in the well, good snap and fair lockup with about 3/16" up and down at the tip. Does rattle if shaken with the blade open as most of these 100+ year old switchblades do. Safety is that you have to push down on the button to slide it to open and works fine. EX- condition.
