This is a Bullfighter lever knife made in Japan for the Mexican tourist trade between the late 1950s and into the 1970s. These were very popular with tourists and were made in three different sizes with different blade shapes, different colors and some variations on the scenes. A lot of fun to collect. This knife is the most common size measuring 19cm (7.25 inches) open with steel liners and brass bolsters, lever and lanyard ring. Red background with gold dragon on the front and bullfighter/ Matador scene on the back. The flat grind clip blade has patina and is approximately 94% full with no markings. The knife works well with the blade even with the liner closed, opens fully and locks open with approximately .25 inches up and down at the tip and some side to side. Knife rattles if shaken when open as many of these do. Overall a fair example of a very cool vintage red Mexican souvenir automatic lever knife.
