This is a Hammer Brand toothpick made by the Imperial Knife Co of Providence RI in the early1950s and designated model # JM-90-PBC. The knife measures 4.25 inches closed and 7 3/8 inches open and is stamped Hammer Brand USA with picture of an arm holding a hammer on the front and PAT NOS over two patent numbers on the back. The scales are hollow steel wrapped in Green pearl/white mottled celluloid which is a clue that it is a knife made in the early 1950s when they used more color variation. The wraps are in good condition and very attractive colors. The blade is 92% full with light patina and is about 1/4 inch short. The knife works well with blade tip sitting deep when closed, opens strong and locks open with some movement each way. Rattles if shaken when open with approx 1/8 inch up and down and about 3/16" side to side. The knife is in VG+ condition and is a really nice example of a working vintage American toothpick switchblade from the early 1950s.
