This is an ORIGINAL 1930s D112 switchblade made for Aerial Cutlery of Marinette, WI by the Union Cutlery Co of Olean, NY. Union made the knives under contract for Aerial in the late 20s and 1930s. Many were complete knives with stag scales and were marked either AC MFG CO, or JAEGER BROS. Others were sold to Aerial without scales (handles) and Aerial would install their own scales, usually some form of celluloid. This is one of those knives. The scales are orange glitter celluloid with dark streaks, very similar to the knife featured in the book Introduction to Switchblade Knives by Myers 1982. The blade is full with original factory finish and interestingly is "double stamped" AC MFG CO MARINETTE WIS. There is NO doubt that this knife is original and the double stamp is an interesting feature that shows that these were sold as tools, to be used and that the marking was not important enough to stop it from being shipped out. The scales are really beautiful and in nearly perfect condition. The knife works great with the blade tip seating deep, strong snap and good lockup open. These original knives are very Rare and hard to find in any condition and this one is Extra Nice! There were reproductions made in the early 1980s, but there are several differences that make it easy to spot those and most were handled in stag. Don't miss your chance to own an original.
