Hammer Brand Serpentine Utility Jack switchblade from the 1950s. This knife was made by the Imperial Knife Co of Providence, RI and was designated the model JM98PB. The knife measures 3.5 inches closed and 6.25 inches open with steel liners. The blade is marked HAMMER BRAND USA with a picture of an arm holding a hammer and the back is marked with two patent numbers. The blade is 97% full with heavy patina, scratches and peppering. The handles (scales) are hollow steel with celluloid wrap in Candystripe color. These more interesting colors were used in the late early 50s and are fun to collect. The wraps are in fair condition with minimal shrinkage, one hairline crack near safety and some minor imperfections. The knife works good with the blade tip seating a bit above the liners when closed (peek), good snap and average lockup open with some movement each way and rattles if shaken when open as many of these do. Sometimes a little finicky to close. VG- condition.
