Hammer Brand Serpentine Utility Jack switchblade from the 1950s. This knife was made by the Imperial Knife Co of Providence, RI and was designated the model JM98PB. The knife measures 3.5 inches closed and 6 1/8 inches open with steel liners. The blade is marked HAMMER BRAND USA with a picture of an arm holding a hammer and the back is marked with two patent numbers that are hard to read. The blade is 98% full with heavy patina, scratches and peppering. Also a barely noticeable nick in the cutting edge of the blade. The handles (scales) are hollow steel with celluloid wrap in Copper Pearl Green swirl. These more interesting colors were used in the late 1940s, early 50s and are fun to collect. The wraps are in nice condition with minimal shrinkage. The knife works GREAT with the blade tip seating deep when closed, strong snap and good lockup open.
