LL Bean contracted with Schrade Cut Co of Walden NY to make some switchblade knives with their company name stamped on the blades. The one that they sold for the longest time was the 3 3\/8\" single with Brown Lined Cream celluloid scales from 1937 to 1943. In 1939 they decided to add a larger folding guard hunting automatic knife, the Hunter's Pride model and it only shows up in ONE of their Bi-annual catalogs, FALL 1939! They only offered it for less than half of a year, so there aren't a lot of these knives out there. We're selling this one with an original FALL 1939 LL BEAN catalog which would make a wonderful display with the knife. The front cover is torn as you can see in the pics, but overall good condition. There is an original order form still in the catalog.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe knife measures 4 7\/8 inches closed and 8 5\/8 inches open with brass liners, which were only used on the LL BEAN Hunter's Pride knives, not on the Schrade versions. The bolsters are steel and the guards, button and safety are nickel silver. The beautiful clip blade is 98% full and shiny and looks to be original finish with the tang stamped LL BEAN FREEPORT, ME on the front and US PATS DEC 21, 09, SEPT 13, 10, JUNE 6, 16 on the rear. The handles (scales) are beautiful dyed jigged bone and in great condition. The knife works well with blade tip deep and centered closed, strong snap and very good lockup with about 1\/8 inch movement at the tip open which is average, or better for this model.
