Schrade doubles

Schrade doubles

Schrade Cutlery Co doubles are some of my favorite knives. They made them from 1906 to 1946 when the company merged with Imperial and the stamp changed to Schrade Walden. They were made in three sizes small (2 7/8 inches closed), medium (3 3/8 inches closed) and large (3 3/4 inches closed) Each knife had two blades, usually one larger blade and a smaller pen blade, but different combinations were also used. The most common combo is Spear/pen blade and most common size is the medium 3 3/8" closed knives.

These knives were made mostly with bonecelluloid or Sterling silver scales (handles) Each release button (one on each side) had a sliding safety to keep them from opening accidentally in your pocket. Some had nickel silver bolsters on each end to protect the knives if they're dropped. There were two variations of bolsters used, full and a shorter "tip" bolster version These knives were commonly used by people in all walks of life and were the daily companions for farmers, store clerks, firemen, warehouse workers, doctors, lawyers, secretaries, hunters, fishermen, boys and even girls. There were switchblades made specifically for disabled Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in the 1940s. These knives were loved an appreciated by millions of Americans in the first half of the 20th century and are still appreciated and carried today by admiring collectors and others.
